It’s Monday morning and you are running late, you go to turn on the shower and no water comes out! You are late for work, the kids are late for school, they need to wash their hair and there is no hot water.
We have all experienced a plumbing emergency, there is nothing worse than the panic you feel when you hear water gushing from somewhere in your home. As you tip toe nervously to the laundry room to see water creeping under the door. You know that you are in trouble and need plumbing emergency help fast!
These are two pretty common plumbing emergencies and there are ways to contain the incident yourself before professional plumbing help is called and on its way.
Stop the Flow of Water: It’s always worth knowing where to locate your water mains. If accessible, switch off the water at the mains until help can arrive. If you can’t try and divert the flow of water to the nearest drain; it’s always good to switch off the main water supply.
Tip to deal with blocked drains and toilets. Do not flush your toilets, as the blockage will cause an overflow. Keep toilets un-flushed until the plumber can arrive to help you.
Frozen Pipes: When water freezes it can expand and this can cause a burst pipe. If your pipes become frozen you must thaw them gently using warm heat such as a hot water bottle. Luckily this is something rare to happen in Sydney due to our climate!
Gas Emergency: If there is any smell of gas in your home you must immediately evacuate and call your emergency plumber or Gas Company.
Hopefully you will not have to call the emergency plumbing services often but as with most things in life, accidents and incidents could happen at times.
It’s good to know you have the confidence and knowledge to isolate the incident and have a reputable Sydney based plumber on hand who can assess and solve your plumbing or drainage emergency quickly.
